Sid, I just bought a new Canon EOS Rebel XT and just now trying to become familiar with this new addition. I am enjoying the outings ad spent one morning just snapping pictures of doors here in the Bario district. Black and white is a favorite, Ansel Adams is a favorite. There are some amazing men quilters. Do not be afraid of that. I just joined this book group and yes, there needs to be instructions for neophytes, as you say. I am looking forward to the first book in April. Merry

You seem to be on several right tracks. The XTi is the best in its class and will produce professional grade photographs. Most of the gizmos on more expensive cameras are unnecessary unless you're doing microphotography, astronomy or are just pretentious. My wealthier students often want to know which camera takes the best pictures. The answer is always it's the one that follows your own heart and mind around until it learns to obey.

Ansel Adams is undoubtedly the finest scenic photographer ever. For people photography see Cartier Bresson, Munkacsi, Imogen Cunningham, et al. You can also try www.picturetrail.com/heckersid.

"How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying" featured a young fellow whose hobby was knitting. He became president. Quilting? Maybe with cloth-based photos??
